Twelve Tanglin Senior School students represented Burkina Faso, Tunisia, Iran and the USA during the 7th Annual SEASAC MUN conference on 22/23 February at UWCSEA East. Whilst the conference was organised and hosted officially by Ruamrudee International School, Bangkok, it had to be shifted on short notice to Singapore due the political situation in Thailand.
For every Tanglin ‘delegate’, it was their first MUN experience. Despite their relative unfamiliarity with introducing country policies, writing resolutions, lobbying, debating within the bounds of strict terminology usage, and generally participating in the ‘institutional’ evolution of resolutions through amendments and points of information and voting, every student played their role with aplomb and alacrity. The representative for the USA and Iran, in particular, found themselves in central and/or polar roles, meaning that interactions and expectations were high. The representatives for Tunisia and Burkina Faso, conversely, forged recognition for themselves and their countries out of assertiveness and thus participatory relevance.
Congratulations and well done to all students, for their courage, fortitude, enthusiasm, and successes.
The Committee and country assignments were:
Security Council: Thomas Griffiths and Will Bargmann (USA)
General Assembly 1: Sean McCarthy (USA); Harry Armitage (Iran)
General Assembly 2: Angus Tebbett (USA)
General Assembly 6: Simran Chandaria (USA); Karan Hunjan (Iran); Dillon Lim (Tunisia)
ECOSOC: Jillis van der Hulst (USA); Oliver Hansen (Burkina Faso)
HRC: Louise Villar (USA)
